Son of a shoe factory worker, Adolf Dassler returned from World War I. He began manufacturing his own sports shoes in his family’s kitchen in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria. When, his older brother, Rudolph returned from the war effort, he joined the startup which was renamed Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory). Rudolph believed his brother turned him. This vent led to the company splitting. After the war in 1947, Rudoplh began Puma.
The rivalry between Adidas and Puma was so intense that Herzogenaurach was completely divided. Even town’s two soccer teams were divided by the two brothers feud. Rudolph and Adolph would never reconcile.
