The Southern Vampire Mysteries is a series of New York Times bestselling book by Charlaine Harris. The series is a first person account Sookie Stackhouse’s life in Bon Temps , Louisiana. True Blood, the television series based on the novels, has become the most popular show on HBO. Sookie, a tanned, blue-eyed, buxom blond, has telepathic powers falls in love with a vampire, Bill Compton. Unlike the TV show, the books focus mainly on Sookie. Their is also far less sex.
The Internet is full of people who openly admit to liking the novels more than the show. Charlaine Harris builds fascinating supernatural characters. From all vampire-revival books and movies, it seems Harris has been able to create the most original vampire story that I have read in a very long time. Fans of the show can easily delve into the books. Season one of the HBO series follows the timeline of the first novel but several events and characters are chopped out. The books can hold you over until the next season.
The adventures of Sookie Stackhouse incorporate a perfect blend of adventure, romance, supernatural, and vampires. After reading the series, I can honestly say the Twilight series can’t hold a candle to southern vampires.
