Green Homemade Cleaning Products

green-cleaningCommercial brand cleaning products have the following ingredients: chlorine, ammonia (lung irritant), phosphates, sodium hydroxide (poisonous and corrosive), parabens (breast cancer), phtalates (carcinogens), and sodium lauryl suplhate (premature aging). Even the products advertised as”green” contain these compounds.

We dug up two great recipes for you to make green cleaning products at home. Both solutions smell great and are safe for you, your pets, and the environment. These cleaners are as effective as chemical cleaners.

Green Spray Cleaner

-1 cup water
-1 tbsp borax (helps with deodorizing)
-1/4 cup vinegar (white or apple cider)
-1 squirt natural liquid soap or castille soap
-5 drops orange essential oil (cuts grease)

Mix all these ingredients in a spray. You must shake the bottle before each use.

Green Bathroom Cleaner
(excellent at removing soap scum)

-1 cup baking soda
-2 tbsp vinegar
-½ cup liquid soap
-2-3 drops tea tree oil

Whisk the ingredients in a bowl and store in container. Use with damp sponge or clothe on any surface.

Where to find the ingredients? Vinegar, borax, and baking soda can be found in any grocery store. Health food stores and pharmacies stock castile soap (natural dish soap, Dr. Bonners, etc) and essential oils. Only buy organic essential oils because dollar store stuff is unsafe for your skin.
