Asus has simply dominated the netbook market. The company understands the segment. The swamp of expensive netbooks has shown several companies disillusionment with the value of these laptops. The 10.1-inch Eee PC 1005PE-P comes with Windows 7 Starter and a high capacity 6 cell battery, providing up to fourteen hours of battery life. In our experience, the netbook got around eight of battery life with normal usage. The 1005PE-P is the first netbook to take advantage of Intel’s new platform, Intel Pine Trail. The new 45-nanometer Pineview Atom N450 processor also features GMA 3150 graphics and memory controller on the CPU die. Asus has kept the chassis of previous versions. The glossy finish does attract fingerprints but the black Eee is sleek. The 2.8 pound netbook can fit comfortably on any airplane tray table. It offers all the fellowing ports: VGA, Ethernet, USB ports, headphone/microphone jacks, SIM card slot, and SD card slot. Typing on the Asus Eee keyboard is a solid experience. Touch-typers will not have any problems. The GMA 3150 graphics can handle 720p smoothly but not 1080p.

HP has finally brought industrial design to the netbook market. Asus and MSI netbooks strike all the right cords but when it comes to design, their products have a Fisher Price look. The HP mini 1000 is thinner and lighter than anything we have tested to date. The keyboard puts this netbook ahead of all the competition. HP chose to integrate a full size keyboard, which is a godsend to touch-typers (finally some real work can be done on netbooks). The compromised keyboards, used by other manufacturers, made typing chore.
