It seems like sequels have been flooding store shelves, but Call of Duty 4 improves substantially on its predecessors. We have played Halo 3, and, surprisingly, have crowned Modern Warfare, the best first person shooter of 2007. Amazon offers Call of Duty 4
The sheer quality of the single player missions might excuse the fact the developer chose to ship a 6 hour story. Experienced players are advised to play through the game in the highest difficulty to experience the full immersion developers intended. Developers are pressured to transform the normal setting into a cakewalk to appease “casual gamers.”
The campaign are rather linear but cover vast maps. The 16 maps are epic and deliver a solid multiplayer playing field. Snipers and close range melee players will enjoy the wide range of locations each map offers for them to surgically carry out their preferred style of gameplay. The six game modes are offered, including team deathmatch, free-for-all deathmatch, and object oriented missions. Players can choose to play in simulation or arcade mode, which differ in weapon damage and weapon distribution.
Call of Duty 4 introduces a class system. Players can upgrade and unlock all classes, which enables them to pick and choose their weapons.
PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are indistinguishable.
Metacritic currently displays a 95% universal score, including a 95% rating by 1UP and 94% rating by IGN.
