Asus has become the Mad Hatter of the computing world. It is introducing and revamping, affordable computers at a blistering pace. The Asus EEE laptop line has gone through several iterations with impressive improvements with every model revision. The Eee PC 1000 sports the popular Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz CPU, 10-inch display, and 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM.
The integration of a 10-inch 1024×600-pixel screen brings the Eee PC closer to sub-planting ultra-portable notebooks, which come with ridiculously high price tags. A thick bezel around the screen is needed to fit the webcam and mic.

The Eee features the largest SSD hard drive ever integrated into a netbook. The 40GB SSD is simply huge but it only comes with the Linux OS model. The netbooks shipping with XP receive a smaller 12GB SSD drive because of Microsoft licensing fees. We recommend getting the Linux version and updating manually to XP or Windows 7.
The Eee PC 1000 also outclasses the competition with an impressive battery life: 5 hours and 30 minutes (normal use). The 6-cell battery adds a little weight but doubles the battery life. Most netbooks come with 3-cell batteries that drain in half the time. Although the 6-cell battery does make the Asus a bit chunkier than netbooks sporting the 3-cell batteries (HP mini 1000, MSI, Dell mini, and Acer)
